History live

The whole election thing is something that people have been talking non stop about.  The past few weeks day in and day out it is all I hear from co-workers, friends, family and customers.  Usually I'm very in tune with what is going on in the world around me but it was getting to the point that I wish it was all over.

Well as of Nov. 4th at around 8:30 p.m (California time) it was all over our new president is Obama!  Now I totally understand that everyone has the right to vote and believe in what they want and I can honestly say that I try not to judge people based on my own views.  But as I sat there on the sofa with my husband holding my hand a feeling of accomplishment came over me.

Growing up African American I never really took thought of a black president. Not because I didn't think they could do it but just because it was something I had never seen before, so there for couldn't grasp.

Regardless of how people feel about Obama I realized one thing. He has opened so many gates and set such an amazing example for the black community.  Showing them that we CAN be in top positions such as the president of the United States.

He made history and even if it doesn't happen again...or anytime in the next couple of elections it felt good to know that my future kids (who will be half black and half Hispanic) will have an example to lead by not only by their father and I but by a man who proved to EVERYONE that minorities can do it to!!

As I called my mom my she gave me chills when she sat on the phone with me crying, saying that she never thought she would see a black president in her life time.  Knowing how much it meant to my parents that I have that example really touched me.  It felt good to see communities come together both black, white, Asian, Hispanic and everything in between on t.v. and in the streets all celebrating the same person.

In the end I don't really care who anyone voted for. But what I do know, is that our next president made history and a huge milestone and for that in and of itself I thank not only him! but Americans for giving him that chance!!
